![]() The Aluguer takes a little longer, the bus only runs when it is full and goes first past Baia de Gatas, but hey, it's vacation, you're in no hurry! And if you have to wait a little while in Salamansa on the way back to Mindelo, you can buy a fried fish snack from one of the locals for 20 cents. You can go to Salamansa with a taxi (1000 escudos = 10 € one way, but you can certainly make a deal with a taxi driver, travel time around 10-15 minutes) or with the Aluguer (100 escudos = 1 €). There is much more to experience there in the evenings, plenty of restaurants and bars, often with live music. We have not been there but stayed in Mindelo, the capital of the island. There is a hotel in Salamansa, the Kitehouse. At both you can leave your kite gear for a few (3) euros per day. There you will find the Salamansa Cabo Verde kiteschool and the Creperie Chez Zoe. The kite spot of Sao Vicente is located on the beach of Salamansa, in the north of the island. Our conclusion after this week: are you looking for a kite spot in the winter with pleasant temperatures, does it not all have to be super luxurious and would you rather have your kite spot a bit quieter? Then you should definitely go to Sao Vicente. We had some doubts to go in advance, because there is little current information on the internet about the kite spot, except the hassle about Kitesurf Now. We have just returned from a week of kite surfing on Sao Vicente. ![]() Highly recommended (but luck required on the night). Massive thanks to Andrew for helping us tick this off our bucket list. What a gamble, what an evening, what an experience. If they do survive, the females come back to the very same beach to lay their own eggs. Mum turtle shuffled back to the water safely and we were then treated to a baby turtle experience and even helped them out to the ocean before being eaten by crabs. And within 30 minutes a radio signal came through to say he's found one and she was about to lay! We held back whilst she made herself comfortable and once she started laying we were allowed up close to witness 40-45 eggs being laid & buried. Our Tour Guide Momo from the Turtle Conservation Centre sent our driver ahead on the hunt for a Mum turtle. Everything was organised over a few messages and that very evening we were picked up on time as organised and we headed out into the night on the back of a 4x4, literally.Īfter a fun bumpy ride to the beach we parked up and continued on foot. We knew we were end of season for the turtles but we were more than happy to gamble on a night trip to try have our very own David Attenborough Turtle Experience.įull-on ”organiser mode” engaged and I found Andrew via Facebook. On the morning of our pre-booked Turtle Tour with another excursion company everything got cancelled. Andrew from Katantik Excursions literally made our holiday.
